Video footage has emerged showing students throwing punches at a deputy principal who is under investigation for allegedly physically assaulting a student.

Eaton Community College associate principal Grant Walton was stood down in March pending an investigation by the Education Department’s standards and integrity directorate.

Video filmed on mobile phones shows two students squaring up to Mr Walton, with fists raised, shouting and throwing punches.

Before that, it shows Mr Walton tackling one boy to the ground by kneeing him in the back and briefly pinning him down as other students mill around, shouting obscenities.

After the student is let up, he continues to throw punches while Mr Walton shouts “get lost” and “go away” several times.

Mr Walton has worked for 15 years at the school, near Bunbury, and has also served as acting principal.

If found guilty, he could face a range of penalties from a reprimand to dismissal.

Bunbury Detectives also investigated the incident, which was reported by a parent, but did not lay charges.

It is understood that students involved in the incident included current and former pupils of Eaton Community College.

Education Department professional standards and conduct executive director Mike Cullen said it was carrying out a thorough investigation into an allegation that a school staff member from a public school in the greater Bunbury area physically assaulted a student.
