Police launch desperate search after 12yo boy goes missing at a WA beach

Police have launched an urgent search for a missing 12-year-old boy who became separated from his mother at a popular swimming spot on the outskirts of Perth.

Just before 6pm local time, police confirmed the child had been located and was being reunited with his family.

Authorities released a photo of the child, named Marcus, and described his as being 165cm tall and fair-skinned. He was wearing a black rashie and blue board shorts and was at Yanchep Beach in Jindalee, about 56km north of Perth.

The search radius was later expanded to Oldham Park, about 1.1km from the beach, after a potential sighting was reported to the police.

In the city’s southwest, police are also desperately on the search for a 45-year-old man who was reported missing at 1.30am on Sunday while scooping for crabs.

Shujian Song was last seen walking at the Point Walter sandbank. While authorities have yet to locate the man, police believe they have a number of items they believe belong to Mr Song.

As of Sunday afternoon, police have launched a large-scale search involving local officers, Water Police vessels, a RAC Rescue helicopter, vessels from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services’ Marine Rescue Fremantle unit, and a plane and a drone from the Police Air Wing.

WA Police say the search will continue until last light on Sunday, and if necessary, will be continued tomorrow.
