Police release name and image of man, whose body was found inside wheelie bin and dumped in dam
Police have named the man who was found stuffed inside a wheelie bin and partially submerged in a dam in Western Australia.
Police have named the man whose body was found stuffed inside a wheelie bin in a WA dam, and are calling for the public’s help to solve the mystery.
Dinh Lam Nguyen’s body was discovered by a group of people, including teenagers, partially submerged in the bin at Glen Brook Dam within John Forrest National Park in Hovea just after midday on Monday.
They had noticed a foul smell before spotting the bin.
It is believed Mr Nguyen, 51, was last seen on January 20 at his home in Balga.
An associate reported him missing two days later, but police said the information provided at the time did not suggest he was in “imminent danger”.
“Inquiries conducted by police in relation to the missing person report over the following days did not identify any possible locations where Mr Nguyen may have travelled,” police said in a statement on Wednesday.
It was earlier revealed that Mr Nguyen was known to police.
Detectives are appealing for information regarding Mr Nguyen’s movements and are also trying to find his blue Mazda 3 sedan with the registration 1CWD 761.
Images from the crime scene show a pink bag protruding from the bin and several officers in waist-deep water removing it from the dam.
“The circumstances surrounding human remains found in a bin at a picnic site in a dam is highly unusual,” Acting inspector Sean Wright told reporters on Tuesday.
Police divers have been combing the dam for evidence, while recruits have also assisted with a grid search of the area.
Detectives are also going over CCTV footage from the park.
Some visitors, who arrived at the dam for the Australia Day public holiday, were unaware it was a crime scene and were turned away.
Anyone with information about Mr Nguyen’s movements or the whereabouts of his car is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
Anyone who saw the wheelie bin in the dam, or any suspicious activity in the area, is also urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
