Perth man jailed after filming sex attacks on clubbers

A man who sexually assaulted clubbers by offering them lifts home has been jailed after he filmed a string of sex attacks.

A man who admitted filming himself committing sexual acts on more than a dozen young men after luring them from Perth entertainment districts has cried in court as he was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.

Brendon Quintin Webb preyed on drunk men, aged between 18 and 28, by offering them lifts home then indecently assaulted them after they passed out in his car. Police were alerted to Webb’s criminality when a 19-year-old victim came forward, Perth Magistrates Court heard on Friday.

The victim said he was given a lift about 1am on January 21 outside The Avenue at Club Bay View in Claremont and woke up three hours later in Doubleview to find Webb molesting him.

Another man, aged 18, was also attacked after accepting a lift in Northbridge on February 24.

Webb’s home and business premises were raided four days later and evidence of more victims was found on electronic devices.

Police said Webb, 41, prowled nightclub districts looking for vulnerable young men to molest for about 18 months from July 2017.

Webb told police: “It was something different to do.”

He pleaded guilty to 17 counts of indecent assault, plus one count of unlawfully possessing a controlled or prescription drug.

Defence counsel Sam Vandongen said many of the victims were unaware what had happened to them so they were unlikely to be suffering any effects from the assault.

Mr Vandongen said it was difficult for Webb to articulate why he committed his crimes.

“He comes across as an extremely stressed man,” he said.

Mr Vandongen said until recently his client had been unwilling to admit to himself that he had a sexual interest in men.

He also said Webb had been assaulted within a few days of being in custody. Magistrate Richard Bayly said a disturbing aspect of the case was that Webb had a prior conviction for this type of offending in 2009.

He said Webb had good prospects for rehabilitation and was unlikely to reoffend. Webb, who appeared in court via video link from prison, was also fined $400 for the drug offence.

He must serve at least half his prison term before he can be eligible for parole.
