Perth man charged with murder over death of three-month-old girl who suffered brain injuries

The death of a three-month-old girl who suffered brain injuries has led police to upgrade the charge against a man to murder.

A 30-year-old man has faced court charged with murder following the death of a three-month-old girl.

The baby was taken to hospital with brain injuries after an alleged incident at a Girrawheen home on March 12.

Zach Meier was initially charged with grievous bodily harm and faced court two days later.

The infant died that same day.

Mr Meier faced Perth Magistrates Court via video link from prison on Monday and his charge was upgraded to murder.

He was not required to enter a plea and he is next scheduled to appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on April 28.

The relationship between the baby and Mr Meier has not been revealed by police or the court.
