Pensioner couple have water stolen by neighbours while on holiday

A seemingly normal photo of a suburban Perth yard has blown up on social media. Here’s why furious Aussies are calling it a “dog act”.

Queenslanders asked to check in on their neighbours following destructive storms

Perth neighbours have been slammed over their “dog act” after they were allegedly caught stealing water from an elderly couple while they were away on holiday.

The neighbours were caught “red handed” by the couple’s child after their parents returned home from holidaying for a few weeks to find they had wracked up hundreds of dollars on their water bill.

“They have been away for a few weeks on holidays (to visit relatives in the old country) and they came back to a $300+ water bill. Well now we know why!” they wrote on Reddit, alongside a photo of a hose running over a fence to an outdoor tap.

“The neighbours have always been on the strange side, but this is going too far.”

The Reddit user stressed the over $300 expense is “a lot of money” for their pensioner parents to have to pay.

They said they eventually confronted the neighbour about the incident but was told she was simply ‘testing’ the water.

“Her excuse was she was ‘testing’ as she had seen a … nearby builder doing that before! WTAF? I asked the builder and he confessed to taking water from the other house that’s just been built,” they wrote.

“She stop(ped) responding when I asked her what exactly she was testing. And also no response when I asked her why she didn’t come and tell us instead of ‘testing’ it …”

Others expressed their outrage online, suggesting the neighbours should be reported to police for theft and the matter be raised with Western Australia’s Water Corporation.

“What type of (an) a******* does that,” one person wrote.

“What a dog act,” said another.

“It’s theft, pure and simple. Your parents have paid for the water that the neighbour has taken without permission,” another wrote.

“No way should your parents have to foot the bill. Their neighbours are a********”.

However, despite the strong suggestions to report the incident, the user said their parent’s don’t want to escalate the situation.

“But I am insisting,” they added. “I want to ask the neighbours to chip in for the bill.”
