Perth Airport has been voted the best airport in Australia and the 26th in the world by website Airhelp.com.

Every year AirHelp produces a global ranking of the world’s best-known airports based on on-time performance, service quality, food and shops.

Perth Airport took the country crown with a score of 7.95 out of 10, ahead of Sydney at 7.51 and Melbourne 7.36.

AirHelp rated Doha’s Hamad International Airport the world’s best with a score of 8.39, followed by Tokyo International and Athens.

Singapore’s Changi only managed 7th spot, despite being highly lauded by savvy travellers.

AirHelp examined and ranked 133 of the world’s airports this year.

It chose the nominees based on the best known and most used airports, but excluded those where data was not available.

To assess quality of service AirHelp asked more than 40,000 passengers in more than 40 countries for their opinions using intelligence platform Attest.

Travellers were asked to rate airports they had visited on customer service, security wait times and cleanliness along a scale of “very good” to “very bad”.

Earlier this year Perth Airport was rated best in Australia and the only one to achieve a “good” rating in the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission airport monitoring report.

“Perth Airport received the highest overall quality of service rating,” the ACCC report said.

It added that: “from an airline perspective, Perth Airport has significantly improved its performance over the past three years and was the only airport to receive a ‘good’ rating in 2017–18”.

The ACCC report also found Perth Airport again had the lowest average drive-up rates for short-term parking of any major airport and the lowest profit margin on car parking.
