A mother and baby found dead in Perth on Monday died in a suspected murder suicide, it has been reported.

It is understood that the father of baby, who is also the woman’s partner, made the horrifying discovery and called police.

He is not considered a suspect and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

Neighbours said they thought the father worked nights and was often asleep in the day, The West Australian reported.

The mother is thought to be nurse and would often been seen in scrubs, although it is not known if she was on maternity leave when she died.

Police were called to the family’s home in Robinson Road, Morley, in Perth’s east, on Monday morning at around 11am.

“Upon arrival, an adult female and an infant child were located deceased,” a police spokesman said.

“Major crime division detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the two deaths.”

A short time later a local council ranger arrived to remove a small, white dog from the scene, while forensic officers searched the property throughout the afternoon.

“(The road) was all blocked off by about six cop cars … then I seen a Ranger, and they brought a little dog out of the house,” Beth Tulloh, who lives on the same street, told reporters.

She said she heard sirens when police first arrived on Monday morning and was shocked to see the street turn into a crime scene.

“I feel for the whole family … it just doesn’t happen here,” Ms Tulloh added.

Peter Stanton, 77, told The West that the news was “nauseating”.

“There is a man, woman and a child who live there, that’s all I’ve ever seen,” Mr Stanton said.

“I didn’t see them outside very much at all and I take my dog out for a walk frequently.

“They weren’t the kind of people that were out in the garden or that sort of thing at all.

“I’m very surprised to hear what’s happened.”

Mr Stanton added that the man who lives at the home appeared to be a night shift worker and “mostly sleeps in the day”.

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the mother seemed like a “nice person”.

“I’ve seen the kid and the mum before and I’d say hello,” he said.

Parents who would normally use Robinson Rd to pick their kids up from school were being turned away by police who had the road blocked off.

“Anyone with information regarding this incident, or who saw or heard anything suspicious in the vicinity of Robinson Road this morning, is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online,” the police spokesperson said.

Local MP Amber-Jade Sanderson, who is also the state’s Minister for both Health and Mental Health, expressed her condolences on social media.

“Today, a terrible incident unfolded in Morley,” she wrote on her official Facebook page.

“We don’t know the circumstances yet and we must let the police investigate.

“If you or a loved one is struggling, please reach out for help.”

Morley is about 10km northeast of Perth’s CBD.
