More than $100,000 raised for orphaned children of WA crash victims
Four brothers from Brazil lost both their parents in a tragic accident at Margaret River. The response has been heartwarming and perfect.
Australians from every state and territory have responded to a tragic road accident in Western Australia that left four young Brazilian brothers orphaned.
The four children, including a newborn baby, were on holiday with their parents when the family’s four-wheel drive flipped on the Forrest Highway in Binningup at Margaret River on Sunday.
Eduardo Hernandes Pereira Rodrigues, 41, and Danielle Bileski de Mello Pimental, 37, were killed in the crash and three of the children were badly injured.
Three-month-old Rafael, Anthony, 3, and Andre, 6, are in a stable condition at Perth Children’s Hospital.
The couple’s teenage son, Joao Miguel, 15, was not involved in the crash.
The children’s grandparents, aged 67 and 69, were also in the vehicle when it crashed. They were transported to Royal Perth Hospital and Bunbury Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Four days after the family — who are originally from Brazil but based in Perth — was torn apart, donations have flooded in from all corners of Australia and around the world.
A GoFundMe page set up to cover the funeral costs and help the family recover had raised more than $103,000 by Thursday afternoon.
More than 2300 people have donated. The majority of donations have come from Western Australia, but as well as every other Australian state there have been donors from Brazil, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, the UK, the US, Norway and Japan.
“No one can ever feel the pain of these little kids. I pray for their good health and future with their loved ones,” one donor wrote.
“I cry with you,” another wrote.
In the comments, it was revealed that others had donated items to the family, including car seats for the boys involved in the crash.
The crash was witnessed by friends of the family who had spent the day at a winery, buying chocolates and having lunch.
“When I saw through the mirror, I could see the car coming, but I couldn’t think it was them,” Mariana Queiroz told Nine.
Mr Queiroz said the couple’s six-year-old son was screaming, “My mum’s died, my mum’s died”.
In a post on the GoFundMe page, organisers invited locals to join in a tribute to Danielle and Eduardo at Scarborough Sunset Markets on Thursday night at 7pm.
