Missing elderly couple located by police after major cross-state journey

An elderly couple missing since Sunday have been found in a remote part of WA, having travelled 1500km across the state.

An elderly couple who went missing on Sunday have been located in a remote part of Western Australia, having travelled roughly 1500km across the state.

Carol Lisle, 84, and Ralph “Terry” Gibbs, 80, were located with the help of truck drivers and local police on Tuesday, near the settlement of Warakurna, a little over an hour from the Northern Territory border.

Ms Lisle requires a wheelchair for mobility and has dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

She disappeared from a care facility in Halls Head, Mandurah, south of Perth on Sunday afternoon.

Both were taken to a nursing post for an initial medical assessment, with the intention of transporting Ms Lisle to hospital via the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

The elderly couple, who struggle with mobility, were located through a co-ordinated effort by police and truck drivers.

“Mandurah Detectives thank the truck drivers and police officers in regional WA who provided relevant information regarding the movements of Ms Lisle and Mr Gibbs during the course of this search,” a police spokesman said.

Detectives from Mandurah have travelled to Warakurna on a police plane to make further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

Police initially said they thought the couple were heading to Mr Gibbs’ former home state of Queensland.
