The wife of a young Aussie electrician electrocuted in a freak accident has taken to social media to leave a gut-wrenching tribute to her husband.
The wife of a young electrician tragically electrocuted in a freak accident has taken to social media to leave a gut-wrenching tribute to her husband.
Matthew Milner, 24, was found death in the roof space of a property after being electrocuted in Perth’s northern suburb of Mollamara.
Mr Milner’s wife, Monique, took to Instagram to pay tribute to her husband, saying: “Watch over me while I live out the life we were meant to live together”.
The couple had only been married since April 2022.
Ms Milner described being married to Mr Milner as “the best year of her life”.
Friends left touching comments to her post.
One wrote that Mr Milner was “simply the best of us”.
“He was just at our place a few weeks ago doing some work and I’m so glad he got to meet my daughter. He worked so hard and I know he loved you so much. It was such a privilege to watch him grow into the man he was and I know his memory will live on in the hundreds of lives he touched with his sense of humour and kindness.”
Another commented he was a “lovely person”.
“My heart is broken for all of you,” the person wrote.
Ms Milner’s father Martin Stanford also posted a tribute to the young man.
“Matthew, I’m so proud to call you my son-in-law and to have you taken away so suddenly hurts beyond belief,” he wrote.
“I don’t have the words to express how profoundly you changed our lives by making Monique so happy.
“Family is everything and we will stay strong together to honour your memory.”
A close friend told The West Australian that the young electrician’s warmth and humour “lit up the room”
“Life moves on but memories don’t, and my greatest memory is having you as a best friend,” Domonique Barone said.
“Your warmth and sense of humour lit up any room, and I know you’ll continue to light up heaven and watch down on us and your beautiful wife Monique.”
Western Australian premier Roger Cook also shared his sympathies.
“It’s dreadful, any death in the workplace is tragic and we want to ensure that any unavoidable death is accounted for and make sure we learn from those experiences,” he said.
“The energy safety regulator will obviously undertake an investigation into this, West Australians reach out to that family today.”
Energy Safety director Saj Abdoolakha told the Daily Mail Aussies need to ensure the power is turned off at the main switch before entering a roof space.
“Our focus is on determining how this tragedy occurred and whether electricity was a factor,” Western Australia’s Energy Safety director Saj Abdoolakha said.
“While we continue this work, I urge everyone to ensure the power is turned off at the main switch before entering a roof space.
“This is required by law for any worker entering the roof space of a home due to the potential electrical hazards.”
