Man pleads guilty to manslaughter over crash that killed mother of slain toddler

A man charged with manslaughter over a crash that killed a mother, who already lost her son in tragic circumstances, has entered a plea.

A Perth man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter over the death of a mother who already lost her young son to murder.

Police had alleged Jahleel Delaine Ahirau Berryman was the driver of a BMW that sped through a red light and collided with a Mitsubishi Magna in April last year.

Kerry Bodney, 31, was a passenger in the BMW and suffered critical injuries in the crash.

She was rushed to hospital but could not be saved.

Two other passengers in the BMW were also hurt.

Police said Mr Berryman fled the scene but was later arrested and taken to hospital for injuries he received in the crash.

He was charged with manslaughter, failing to stop and ensure assistance after an incident occasioning death, and failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm.

Mr Berryman faced Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and will face a sentencing hearing in the WA Supreme Court on July.

He is yet to enter pleas to the other charges.

Ms Bodney was the mother of a two-year old toddler who was murdered by her former partner Wayne Narkle in 2012.

He was sentenced to a minimum term of 15 years in prison for shaking and hitting the young child while in his care.

Ms Bodney’s family and friends paid tribute to her following the fatal crash.

She was remembered as a beautiful soul, who was an inspiration of strength and resilience, and was taken too soon.
