A man has been charged after a couple were allegedly run down in what police are describing as a road rage incident in Western Australia.

The alleged incident occurred at about 10.25pm on Thursday when a white Mitsubishi Triton tray-top was involved in a minor traffic crash with a small silver car.

The two vehicles followed each other through several streets around Greenfields and Mandurah, about 70kms south of Perth, until the Mitsubishi Triton pulled over on Crawford Street.

Two people in the Triton exited the vehicle and walked towards the silver car, but it did not stop, allegedly hitting both people.

Ashleigh Howe, 36, and her partner Jason, 36, both sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital via ambulance.

The 29-year old driver of the silver car has been charged by police with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous driving and driving with an expired licence.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Speaking to Nine News, Ms Howe said she was “very lucky” that she was not more severely injured.

The publication reported that the couple are now both out of work while they recover from their injuries.

“We have rent to pay, we have food to put in the house,” Ms Howe said.

Two teenagers were reportedly in the car at the time of the alleged incident, with one telling Nine that he was “scary”.

“I was half way out of the car when I heard the bang. And then I just heard my stepmum and my dad scream,” he said.

A police spokesperson said detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have seen either vehicle travelling in the Mandurah and Meadow Springs area between 10pm and 11pm on Thursday.

Anyone with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam vision relating to the incident is also asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
