Good Friday will be best spent indoors in Perth as the city is set to shiver through its coldest April day in nearly 15 years.

Possible hail and thunderstorms are forecast for Friday with the Bureau of Meteorology saying there is 100 per cent chance of rain in the metropolitan area.

The predicted top of 16 degrees Celsius would make it the coldest April day since 2015, when it only reached 15.9C on the first day of the month.

A BoM spokesperson said the wild weather was a result of the first cold front of the season.

“It will be rather unpleasant weather compared to what we have been having recently,” she said.

“The weather is not terribly unusual for this time of year except for the low temperatures with snow forecast for the Porongurups.”

People are also being urged to avoid beaches with winds of up to 64km/h and swells of up to four metres.

Some Perth surf life saving clubs will not be putting out flags and the BoM spokesperson said activities like rock fishing would be extremely hazardous.
