Former WA treasurer Troy Buswell charged with attempting to pervert justice
A controversial former treasurer for Western Australia has been charged with attempting to pervert justice in relation to an ongoing family violence court case.
Former West Australian treasurer and state Liberal leader Troy Buswell has been charged just months after going on trial, accused of assaulting his ex-partner.
Mr Buswell, 55, was on Thursday charged with one count of attempting to pervert justice following an investigation by WA Police’s Special Crime Division.
Police will allege Mr Buswell contacted the complainant in an ongoing family violence court case on August 20.
It will be alleged he is the accused in this family violence case.
Mr Buswell, from Yoongarillup, will front Perth Magistrates Court at a later date following a brief appearance on Thursday morning.
His trial earlier this year was only partly heard and will return to court for a trial allocation hearing on Monday.
Mr Buswell joined the WA parliament in 2005, but quit politics in 2014 after he had a series of car crashes while returning home from a wedding.
The one-time heir apparent to former premier Colin Barnett committed other indiscretions including sniffing the chair of a Liberal staffer in 2008 while feigning pleasure and an affair with then-Greens MP Adele Carles in 2010.
