Tragedy has struck a Perth family for a second time with the mother of a young boy murdered by her then-partner, killed in a car crash.

The mother of a young boy, shaken to death by her then-partner more than a decade ago, has herself been killed in a car crash.

Kerry Bodney, 31, has been identified as the woman who died after being involved in a collision between two vehicles in the northern Perth suburb of Balga on Wednesday.

Western Australian Police said Ms Bodney was the passenger in a BMW sedan which allegedly sped through a red light at the intersection of Beach Rd and Mirrabooka Ave about 11.30am, hitting a Mitsubishi Magna.

Police allege the driver of the BMW sped away from the scene of the crash, before being arrested later in Mirrabooka and taken to hospital for the treatment of injuries received in the crash.

Ms Bodney was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with critical injuries, where she later died.

Her two-year-old son Robert was killed by Wayne Narkle in 2012, over which he was sentenced to at least 15 years prison.

Family and friends have expressed their grief at Ms Bodney’s death on social media.

“I am completely and utterly shattered,” said Tahlya Paciente in a Facebook post, “I know that your with your little king now and I know that no matter where I am you will always ALWAYS be around.”

WA Police have since charged the 27-year-old man who was allegedly behind the wheel of the BMW with manslaughter, failing to stop and ensure assistance received after incident occasioning death, and failing to report an incident occasioning death or grievous bodily harm.

He’s been refused bail to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Two other passengers in the BMW were also hurt.
