Residents in Perth’s east have been ordered to evacuate immediately, with authorities warning lives and home are at risk due to an out-of-control blaze.

The Western Australia Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) issued the emergency warning at 4.55pm local time, urging residents to “leave now”.

“You are in danger and need to act immediately to survive. There is a threat to lives and homes,” the warning read.

“If the way is clear, leave now for a safer place. This may be with family or friends away from the area.

“Do not wait and see, leaving at the last minute could put your life in danger.”

People in the area have been urged to evacuate in an easterly direction.

The alert applies to people in the suburbs of Kenwick, Wattle Grove and Forrestfield, in the area bounded by Hale Rd, the Tonkin highway, Brentwood Rd, and Bickley Rd.

Footage from 7News showed thick heavy smoke spilling from the fire zone, with blazes encroaching on property.

The Kenwick bushfire has been reported as moving in a north-westerly direction, and has not been contained or controlled by firefighters who are currently at the scene.

Fire crews are actively fighting the fires and aerial support has been sent to assist ground crews.

Residents who are unable to leave have been told to take shelter before the blazes arrive.

“You must shelter before the fire arrives, as the extreme heat will kill you before the flames reach you,” the warning read.

Go to a room in your home where you can shelter from the approaching fire.”

For people stuck in their cars, drivers are urged to park away from bushes and cover themselves with a woollen blanket to protect themselves from windows which could break from the extreme heat.

“Close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible,” authorities have advised.
