A man who allegedly fled the crash scene after slamming his car through the front wall of a house in Caversham, seriously injuring a young man inside, will face court this morning.

Police allege the 36-year-old was driving a black Subaru Impreza sedan when he lost control of the vehicle on Patricia Street about midday and veered off the road and into the house.

After crashing through 19-year-old Adam Mercer’s bedroom wall and leaving him unconscious and buried under piles of rubble, police allege he left the scene before being tackled to the ground by neighbours in a citizen’s arrest.

Major Crash investigators this morning charged him with failing to stop and ensure assistance following an incident causing bloody harm. He will appear in Midland Magistrate’s Court.

Mr Mercer is now out of an induced coma but remains in the trauma ward at Royal Perth Hospital in a stable condition.

Police say their investigation is ongoing and anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or go to www.crimestopperswa.com.au
