Disturbing footage has captured the moment a man smashed his head into an ambulance windscreen as horrified onlookers watched.
Disturbing vision has been captured of a man repeatedly smashing his head into the windscreen of an ambulance in the Western Australian city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Footage captures the moment the 25-year-old started clinging onto the bonnet of the ambulance and repeatedly smashing his head into the windshield, leaving the glass broken.
The ambulance is seen reversing the vehicle and driving it forward but the man keeps hitting his head.
In a statement, St John Ambulance WA said the incident was “unacceptable and deeply distressing” for the three crews who were responding to a call out.
A patient transport crew also came under “violent attack” as they came to the aid of their colleagues, the statement read.
The man was taken to Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital after the incident and is currently in a the intensive care unit of Fiona Stanley Hospital in a “serious condition”, the ABC reports.
St John Ambulance WA said they are “relieved no crew members were physically injured.”
“We are relieved no one was physically injured, but incidents like this leave a lasting emotional impact, and we stand firmly with our people.”
“Violence against our crews is violence against the whole community,” the statement read.
WA Police have charged the man from Boulder with one count of criminal damage, one count of obscene acts in public and one count of endangering the life, health or safety of any person.
The man’s bail was refused. He appeared in the Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court today.
