Coogee Beach: Police charge man over alleged sexual assault of teenager in Perth’s south
Police have charged a man over the alleged sexual assault of a teenager at a popular beach on Friday.
A man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of a teenager at a popular beach in Perth’s south on Friday.
Detectives from the Sex Assault Squad spoke with the 33-year-old man over an unrelated matter but following inquiries police identified the accused and charged him in relation to the alleged assault that occurred at Coogee Beach on Friday.
“It will be alleged about 2.10pm the accused led a teenage girl into a male toilet block and sexually assaulted her,” police said in a statement.
The Victoria Park man was arrested and charged with one count of sexual penetration without consent.
He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court later on Sunday.
On Saturday, Western Australian Police released an image of a man who they believed could assist with their investigations.
“It is believed the man pictured in the images may be able to assist with the investigation,” a police spokesman said.
The incident is being investigated by detectives from the Sex Assault Squad and is alleged to have occurred sometime between 2pm and 3pm on January 12 near the Coogee Beach reserve.
