Bull shark spotted in Perth’s Swan River following recent attack on swimmer

A two-metre bull shark has been seen in Perth’s Swan River just a couple of weeks after a swimmer was attacked.

Why this is the deadliest year for shark attacks since 2012

A bull shark has been spotted in Perth’s Swan River close to the area where a swimmer was shockingly attacked earlier this month.

Surf Life Saving WA said a member of the public saw the two-metre shark just 10m offshore near the Swan Yacht Club in East Fremantle about 6.45am on Wednesday.

It follows another sighting of a two-metre bull shark about 10m offshore near Canning Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

A three-metre bull shark attacked Cameron Wrathall, 54, during his morning swim at Blackwall Reach in Bicton on January 14.

Mr Wrathall suffered serious injuries to his upper leg and required surgery twice while in intensive care.

The father-of-two became the first shark attack victim in the Swan River since 1968.

Richard O’Brien was swimming with Mr Wrathall at the time and described it as “pretty horrific”.

“We were doing our usual swim and we were about to turn back, and the shark came up from below and bit Cameron,” he told 7 News at the time.

David Davenport said he heard a shout and then he saw “the trail of blood coming out”.

Two kayakers helped bring Mr Wrathall to shore and one of them used their own shirt to try to stem the bleeding.

Last year, sharks killed three people in WA.

Gary Johnson was taken by a white shark while diving with his wife near Cull Island off Esperance in January.

Surfer Andrew Sharpe was mauled by a suspected white shark at Kelp Beds in Wylie Bay near Esperance in October.

Charles Cernobori was bodyboarding at Cable Beach in Broome when he was fatally attacked by a bull shark in November.
