Young man charged over crash that killed child in Melbourne
A 24-year-old has been charged after a three-year-old died in a horror crash in Melbourne’s northeast, with more charges expected.
A three-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car in a busy intersection in Melbourne’s southeast.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of James Cook Drive and Heatherton Rd in Endeavour Hills about 8.30 Thursday morning following reports of a car striking a toddler.
The young girl was reportedly walking across a pedestrian crossing on Heatherton Rd with her family when she was struck by the car.
The child was critically injured and rushed to Dandenong Hospital in a life-threatening condition, and died on Friday morning.
Footage obtained by 7News showed a child’s scooter collapsed on its side near the site of the incident with police continuing to investigate the crash.
The 24-year-old driver stopped at the scene and arrested by police, where he was charged with one count of dangerous driving causing serious injury.
The Endeavour Hills man has been bailed and will appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday October 23.
“It is expected further charges will now be considered following the death of the child,” a statement from Victoria Polce read.
