The Block 2024 episode 50 recap: Prospect of having to work — and unresolved issues with Kylie and Brad — give Mimi a panic attack

She tried to play it cool as The Block flirt scandal climaxed with one couple quitting the show. But Mimi has finally unravelled.

The pressure of finally doing some work – and the unresolved drama with Kylie and Brad – has pushed Mimi to breaking point.

After confiding to her pal Courtney that she was struggling to live up to All Stars’ Alisa and Lysandra’s exacting standards as the dust settled on the controversial disappearing act of Kylie and Brad, Mimi had a panic attack.

As Courtney soothed the hyperventilating extravert, Mimi wept of Brad and Kylie’s controversial departure: “I am still processing it.”

“It’s the last week, I just wanted it to be fun. Last week was so hard. Kylie and Brad left and I didn’t get time to process that and then the All Stars came in.”

After a pep talk from her “emotional Support-ney” Mimi managed to dig deep enough to clean the house.

Having finally put her nose to the grindstone (just days before the final tools down) Mimi was feeling overwhelmed by how much there was to do. Ordinarily she would just take off for a manicure or a Disney concert, but this time she rolled up her sleeves.

“I was feeling it because I didn’t want to let the girls down, because I have so much respect for them and their work ethic,” she explained, forgetting that she had no such conflict over letting Kristian down repeatedly.

Meanwhile, Steph had well and truly made her presence felt in Courtney and Grant’s day spa. It may not have her Japandi aesthetic, but it was her signature shade of beige. And her insistence on attention to trivial details saw Courtney and Grant splash out $7000 just to ensure the skirting boards ran flush with the wall.

“It’s a stupid idea,” a gobsmacked Scotty told Grant before revealing that the outlay would completely drain their budget.

“So, don’t spend anymore. Use what you’ve got. Don’t let Steph go with your budget,” he warned sternly.

Scott tells Grant he's made a stupid decision to spend $7000 on double plastering the day spa to ensure the plaster is flush with the skirting boards.

To reinforce his message, Scotty also called Courtney and Steph as they headed off on a shopping trip, telling the pair of extravagant spenders that there was no more money.

Did that draw a halt to their excursion? Of course not. The girls headed to the nursery to spend up on succulents and cactuses.

Eliza and Liberty were also not in the mood to hear the word ‘no’. Despite Ricky and Haydn’s tight budget, the sisters decided a $389 metal tortoise was a must-have accessory.

Arriving back at site lugging the hefty amphibian, the girls tried to justify their ridiculous purchase by explaining the shopkeeper had knocked $100 off the price.

“It’s a bargain,” they stammered of the non-refundable sculpture as they told Ricky and Haydn that kids would love to ride on it while sitting by the open fire.

Lucky for them there was a fireplace to toast that tortoise because Ricky had installed the flue upside down.

Foreman Dan took great delight in revealing the potentially costly blunder to a flattened Ricky.

Admitting he hadn’t read the guidelines, the plumber said: “There was a 50/50 chance (of getting it right) so I took the gamble.”

“Well, it didn’t pay off,” Dan giggled. Fortunately, Dan came to the rescue, getting his building team to turn things around.
