The Block 2024 episode 33 recap: Mimi’s cruel response to Kristian’s distress
In one of this season’s low points, One constestant ridicules her husband for his distress, calling it “f***ing embarrassing”.
According to Mimi its unmanly to cry.
As the teams geared up for “hell week”, the aspiring actress was less than sympathetic when her husband Kristian broke down, after a heated exchange with foreman Dan over the messiness of their work site.
“How f***ing embarrassing is he? Who reacts like that?” Mimi declared to everyone on site after seeing Kristian cowering in the bathroom.
“Crying when you are happy is fine but crying when you are sad, like ‘be a man!’ Use some concrete. It’s a bit embarrassing.”
Later (after some time for self-reflection), Mimi admitted that she had treated Kristian badly, then laid the blame for that appalling behaviour squarely at the feet of her own mother.

“When I was younger and would cry my mum would say: ‘Why are you crying? What are you doing? Grow up. Snap out of it!’ instead of comforting me and I didn’t realise I had adopted that,” she explained as Kristian sat next to her looking uncomfortable.
“I think that is something I need to hone in on.”
Something else she needs to “hone in on” is thinking it’s fair and reasonable to hit the hay and leave Kristian to work all night, just so they would have a shot at winning the whopping amount of cash up for grabs this week.
Making matters worse, she then had the gall to criticise his efforts.
There’s no doubting that everyone is feeling the pressure this week (though no-one else is doing a Mimi and pointing the finger at their mum for bad behaviour).
And things look set to get worse before they get better.
Fresh from finishing their living and dining rooms, the five teams were told they’ll have just $16,000 to renovate a rumpus room and office. Oh, and if that wasn’t hard enough, they’ll also have to complete their hallways by Thursday.
Explaining the decision to squeeze the hallway reno into an already hectic week, host Scott Cam said: “the houses are too big and there’s not enough weeks.”
For viewers, this is good news because watching hallway reveals has always been pretty underwhelming.
Just as the group is coming to terms with the herculean task ahead, host Scott Cam calls them to a meeting to announce they must also come up with an attention-grabbing listing for their home and host a soiree for 100 potential buyers.

The silver lining to the additional tasks is that there is more cash to be won. The best hallway will secure $10,000 while the team who wins the most votes for their showing will nab a whopping $50,000.
“This is going to be a wild week,” Ricky sighed.
“People were calling last week massive but this is going to be beyond words. There will be barely any sleep this week.” Unless you are Mimi, of course.
Eager to win, Ricky and Haydn decided to pull the HiPages lever to get a team of plasterers in.
It’s a smart move because, as the only team with no wins under their belt, they need money. Fast.
“Our budget is cooked,” Ricky said.
“There’s potentially $100k up for grabs this week. $50,000 for the challenge, $10,000 for hallway, $10,000 for rumpus and then, potentially, if you can bag a couple of tens, there’s $100k there.
“So, we could go from in the red to in the green for miles.”
As such, Ricky wasted no time, picking up the phone to his agent to get the ball rolling on arranging a “big shindig.”
“We are pumped for this,” Haydn said as they pondered whether to get a band or a DJ in to entertain their guests and Ricky flirted with serving drinks “with no top on and a bow tie.”
Meanwhile Mimi and Kristian were cooking up a way to win people’s votes that involved flying her parents to Melbourne to cook pad thai on the front lawn.
Before they could get started on deciding on menus or wardrobe for their function, Kylie and Brad had to find themselves a new real estate agent after theirs up and quit last week.
And they did that, recruiting two men for the job. A smaller Phillip Island outfit as well as the bigger McGrath Real Estate.
Kylie and Brad have had the opposite trajectory to Kristian and Mimi and gone from the bottom of the pack to the top in recent weeks. A second victory on Sunday — and two perfect scores — was even enough to make Kylie smile. Almost.
She did, however, show some genuine excitement on her Winner’s Escape where she shared dinner with past contestants Tom and Sarah Jane and took possession of their $30,000 prize.
With landscaping week looming, everybody is getting anxious about money. And everybody is looking to give their homes a point of difference.
Sisters, Maddy and Charlotte have been secretly plotting to turn the upstairs area of their house into a guest suite with its own entrance.
They hit a stumbling block though when the site manager, Aiden, told them, cryptically: “just because you could do something doesn’t mean you can.”
Even though, weeks earlier, foreman Dan approved the staircase (the girls even getting video evidence of that green light), that information never filtered down to the relevant parties. And so, the exterior of the building had been clad and finished as per the original plan with no provision for a new entryway.
While Aiden left the girls in tears telling them they’d have to cough up $30k and seek approval from the council to now bring their vision to life, he later ate his words.
It turns out it was a whole lot of fuss over nothing. They can do their guest suite at no additional cost.
It could be a game-changer for the newcomers. If you recall, underdogs Tess and Brad won The Block in 2019 after delivering a similar set-up.
Mimi and Kristian have also made some changes to their floor plan, deleting the office in favour of an additional bedroom.
While Ricky and Haydn also decided to prioritise play over work turning their office space into a games room.
Game on.
