Sunshine West shooting murder: Victim Toan Thoai Truong had hidden cannabis set-up in bedroom

A MAN shot to death in his home in Melbourne’s west last year had an elaborate construction set up in an upstairs bedroom, unknown to his wife.

A MAN shot to death in his home in Melbourne’s west last year had constructed a hydroponic cannabis set-up in an upstairs bedroom, unknown to his wife.

Toan Thoai Truong, 43, was killed in front of his pregnant wife in his home on Allison St, Sunshine West, on February 3 last year.

It is believed the 43-year-old’s killer was after the crop when they killed Mr Truong while his three-year-old son was also home.

Homicide Squad detectives have revealed his wife knew nothing about the hydroponic cannabis crop, with Mr Truong advising her to not go upstairs as he was renovating the room for the new baby.

She had agreed not to go upstairs as Mr Truong had also said it was possibly dangerous as she was pregnant at the time.

Investigators believe the offender was aware of the existence of the cannabis crop and had entered the house with the intent to steal the cannabis.

Police have released a digital image of a man they believe was in the property.

CCTV footage shows a dark-coloured sedan speeding away from the scene towards Fitzgerald Road shortly after the shooting.

There are two vehicles of interest which were seen travelling in convoy in the area about 45 minutes before the murder.

The cars are both believed to be dark-coloured, one believed to be a late model Ford Falcon sedan and the second a BMW two door coupe or similar vehicle.

Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Michael Hughes said he hoped today’s plea for public help on the anniversary of Mr Truong murder will help bring some closure to his grieving family.

“Someone out there knows who is responsible for Toan’s murder and we are urging them to come forward and contact police,” he said.
