Rapist Waleed Latif was confronted while on a date

WALEED Latif was confronted about the Croatian rape when his date did the unthinkable — she called the rape victim “feral”.

Croatia rapist's date defends him

WALEED Latif went on a date like any regular guy. He took a woman to the movies to see the new Zoolander film, and even asked if she wanted a doughnut.

But Latif is no ordinary man — he is one of three Australians who raped a 17-year-old girl in the toilets of a Croatian nightclub, and paid for his freedom.

Latif, 21, along with friends Dylan Djohan, 23, and Ashwin Kumar, 23, pleaded guilty to the rape of the young Norwegian girl and struck a deal with Croatian authorities — their only punishment was to pay the victim about $30,000.

The men have been in hiding since returning to Australia after the rape in July last year. That was until a reporter on Channel Nine’s A Current Affair confronted Latif while he was on his date.

Looking smug, Latif ignored all questions but his date was quick to defend him.

Reporter Reid Butler approached the pair at the counter of a Hoyts cinema in Melbourne and asked the young women if she knew Latif was responsible for raping a 17-year-old girl.

She said “he didn’t” and Butler said “he admitted to doing it” and she just said “so what?” and pushed the camera.

After Butler asked Latif how he could walk around a free man after only paying a share in the $30,000 pay off, the woman with him asked why he would only have to pay $10,000 if it was rape.

The woman then did the unthinkable and called the rape victim feral.

“What feral girl would accept $10,000?” She said.

Latif is not the only one showing no remorse for what he did to this young girl, Djohan also posted on social media a comment about joining the mile high club with an air stewardess, on his way back from the holiday where he raped the woman.

A Current Affair reported a person found guilty of this crime in Australia could be sentenced to 25 years behind bars and placed on the sex offenders list.

Victorian Centres Against Sexual Assault spokeswoman Carolyn Worth told A Current Affair the men’s response to the rape was arrogant and dismissive and did not believe consideration had been given to the victim.

Psychologist Kaylene Evers told the program the men thought they were superior.

“With that attitude, they are likely to reoffend to a lesser or greater extent,” she said.

She also believed the men would draw in starstruck women as the men portrayed themselves as untouchable.

“These are testosterone, celebrity-inspired young men who think they are absolutely God-like,” Dr Evers said. “They are not likely to learn in the short-term.”

Ashwin Kumar, Waleed Latif and Dylan Djohan paid about $30,000 between them to walk free from the rape charge.

The trio’s shocking act on foreign soil made headlines in Russia, United States, United Kingdom and Norway.

Croatian women’s rights campaigner Sanja Sarnavkais told news.com.au the 17-year-old’s case was strong.

“She was drinking in the bar with the three guys, but then they dragged her into the men’s toilet and raped her,” she said.

“The girl, after succeeding in running from the toilet, went directly to the police station and reported the rape.”

Two of the three men originally claimed the sex was consensual and the third said he wasn’t involved.

They all later pleaded guilty and paid about $10,000 each to the woman and were placed on a good behaviour bond for five years, enforced in Europe but not Australia.

Since the three men returned to Australia, their friends supported them on Facebook and labelled them heroes.

One even suggested the victim was a “sl*t” and accused her of extortion, according to the Herald Sun.

The friend who posted the message said “Weird 17 yr old at a nightclub, underage to me if thats the rule in Croatian clubs, no witnesses even locals there heard of nothing, its simple 1. its called being a sl*t, lying about her age 2. Baited for payout 3. A girl could not possibility out muscle 3 men. 4. Most cases the victim gets bashed or killed neither happen 5. She knew what she was getting herself into ... Extortion is the word. #istandwiththeboys (sic)”.
