Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews signals end to Covid isolation rules
Daniel Andrews has provided a huge clue about when one of the last remaining Covid rules will finally be scrapped in Victoria.
Daniel Andrews has given insight into when Victoria’s Covid isolation mandates for infected people could potentially end but promised it wouldn’t be “anytime soon”.
The Premier provided the detail on Thursday morning after announcing the state’s healthcare workers would be eligible for a $1500 bonus as seasonal virus pressures increase.
“We won’t have isolation mandates in place forever,” he said.
“I don’t have any advice to (change isolation rules yet), that advice wouldn’t come to me anyway, it would go to the Health Minister.
“But right now, let me thank everyone who’s staying home … these rules as well as this sense of let’s get through this together absolutely takes pressure off the system.”
However, despite acknowledging the rules had an expiry date, Mr Andrews was adamant any changes wouldn’t be immediate.
“I don’t think the advice (to scrap isolation orders) has been provided,” he said.
“The Minister (of) Health would have to go through some consultation processes (to change the rules) and he has not done that, so I don’t think that’s going to happen anytime soon.
“As for November, we’re going to have to wait and see how things unfold.”
Mr Andrews’ insight came as Victoria recorded 22 Covid deaths on Wednesday and 25 more on Tuesday.
There are a mammoth 49,347 active cases across the state, with 8903 detected in the past 24 hours alone.
