The votes are in and Australia has an answer to the Voice referendum question - a resounding no.

To succeed, a double majority was needed. This means the referendum would have passed if the majority of Australians and the majority of states voted Yes.

Around 52 per cent of votes so far counted in Victoria are for the No camp.

Just 90 minutes after the first polls closed, the referendum was called for No.
