Bizarre details in election ad supporting Victorian Premier Dan Andrews

A strange new approach to election ads posted across one state has left dumbfounded voters scratching their heads.

Labor to inject billions into state infrastructure

A baffling new approach to election advertisements has left many confused after posters supporting Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews labelled him a “p***k”.

Posters plastered around Melbourne label the politician “a p***k” twice in one sentence while also highlighting the construction work generated by his government.

The backhanded approach to winning voters comes from the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union, which is pushing for members to vote Labor in the upcoming state election.

“Dan might be a p***k, but he’s a prick who’s delivering for construction workers,” the poster reads.

“Labor will keep you in work for another 30 years.”

The advertisement highlights that the government under Mr Andrews has committed $110bn in funding to state infrastructure projects, including $70bn for the suburban rail loop.

The state Liberal party has pledged to shut down the rail loop if elected in the next election.

The coarse poster is just one of a series of aggressive election advertisements used by the CFMEU to show their support for Labor.

Another poster urges members to vote for Mr Andrews to prevent the Liberal Party from “bringing back” a construction watchdog that it claims would strip them of their benefits.

The union has been forced to fork out more than $16m in penalties since the Australian Building and Construction Commission was established. The federal government has vowed to scrap the watchdog, which was set up by a previous Liberal government.

The qualified support for Mr Andrews comes after his government presided over one of the country’s strictest state-run pandemic responses, including continuous lockdowns.

Construction was beleaguered with constant shutdowns and vaccine mandates that frustrated many workers.

The CFMEU noted Mr Andrews’ hard stance but said workers ultimately benefited from his decisions.

“A lot of us didn’t agree with Dan during the pandemic,” a poster reads.

“Fair enough but he kept us working and providing for our families.”

The strongly worded election campaign comes just a month out from the Victorian state election on November 26.
