Woman’s body found on Melbourne beach

Police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body was located early on Monday.

The discovery of a woman’s body on a beach in Melbourne’s southeast is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were call to Edithvale about 6.30am on Monday, where the body was found at the end of the Carrington St entrance to the suburb’s beach.

Victoria Police said officers had worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

“Police will prepare a report for the coroner after the body of a woman was located on the beach in Edithvale on 26 August,” a police statement read.

“Emergency services were called to the beach on Carrington Street where the woman was located about 6.30am.

“At this stage, the death is not believed to be suspicious.”

Footage from the scene showed a blue tarpaulin covering a patch of sand, with emergency crews standing nearby.

Edithvale is a beachside suburb about 28km from the city’s CBD.
