A woman has been killed and two others, including a young child, have suffered injuries in a horror car crash.

A woman has died and a child has been injured in a horror car crash in regional Victoria.

The 63-year-old woman was driving east along the Axedale Toolleen Road in Toolleen in northern Victoria about 2.45pm on Sunday when she struck a tree.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and despite best efforts, the woman could not be saved.

A nine-year-old child also travelling in the vehicle sustained injuries to their lower body, and was transported to hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.

Another passenger, a 70-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was flown to hospital in a serious condition.

Police have launched an investigation into the fatal crash, with the exact circumstances yet to be determined.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
