Woman dies after horror three cars and a truck crash near Darnum

A woman has died and another is fighting for her life after three cars and a truck collided on a busy freeway.

A woman has died after a four-vehicle crash on a busy highway that left another woman and a teenager fighting for their lives in hospital.

Police believe three cars and a truck collided around 8.40am on Monday in the westbound lanes of the Princes Freeway, near Darnum in Victoria’s southeast.

Victoria Police said seven people were involved in the deadly four-vehicle pileup near the Bona Vista Rd exit.

A woman who was travelling in the front seat of one of the cars died at the scene. She has not been formally identified.

The female driver of the car has been flown to hospital, where she is fighting for her life after suffering potentially fatal injuries.

A teenage girl who was travelling in the back seat of that car has also been rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of another car was also hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries.

Two men in a third car were treated by paramedics at the scene for their injuries.

A fourth driver received minor injuries in the deadly crash.

Victoria Police confirmed the truck driver is assisting them with their inquiries.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision and its cause.

The crash marks the 131st life lost on Victoria’s roads this year.

The staggering total has risen sharply from the 96 deaths recorded over the same period in 2022.
