A young Melbourne woman, who managed to escape a man after he allegedly tried to drag her into bushes, is calling for him to come forward.

Amy Sangiah, 20, was exercising in Bellbird Park in Berwick, an hour south of Melbourne, on Friday morning when the man started to ask her questions.

“He just kept asking if I was single, and he kept asking me how much money I had in my account,” Ms Sangiah told 7 Newsthrough tears.

When the 20-year-old refused to answer his questions, she said the man allegedly grabbed her and tried to drag her into nearby bushes.

“He came running at me and just grabbed me. He was trying to push me down into the bushes onto the ground, and I was trying to push him back,” she said.

Ms Sangiah managed to get away from him before alerting a nearby neighbour.

The 20-year-old also snapped a quick picture of the man she claims assaulted her.

Ms Sangiah and her sister Natasha called on their Facebook friends to help them find him.

“Some low life decided to assault my sister (Amy) in broad daylight in Berwick while she was going on a run,” Natasha wrote.

“What started out as general conversation quickly turned aggressive as he started asking questions such as if she was single and how much money she has in her bank account, etc.

“Once my sister tried to leave he grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her clothes, and pushed her onto the ground and into a bush and spat on her.

“Simultaneously he started yelling racial slurs at her and threatened to punch her.

“Thankfully, a lady in a nearby house heard her crying and came outside, where she found my sister and then called the police. As he ran off he continued yelling abusive comments.

“A reminder to be careful as you go about your daily activities — especially girls running around this area — as you don’t know what types of people are out there.”

The 20-year-old said it wouldn’t stop her running.

Ms Sangiah said the terrifying ordeal wouldn’t stop her from running — but she did call for the man to come forward.

“You hear stories about it but you never think it will happen to you, let alone in broad daylight,” she said.

“At least hold yourself accountable for what you did.”

Victoria Police confirmed it was investigating the assault and are searching for the man responsible.

He is described as 18-20 years old with black hair, of Asian appearance and was wearing a blue T-shirt, knee-length shorts and joggers.
