‘Woken to a loud rumble’: Magnitude 3.0 earthquake strikes near Lakes Entrance, in Victoria’s east
A magnitude 3.0 earthquake has struck in Victoria’s east, with one resident being woken up by a “loud rumble” in the early hours of the morning.
A 3.0 magnitude earthquake has struck in east Victoria, some residents claiming they felt the quake when they woke to a “loud rumble”.
The quake was recorded about 12.03am on Saturday in Lakes Entrance, a coastal town in the state’s east some 319km from Melbourne.
In a Facebook post, one woman said: “I was woken up to a loud rumble and I checked my phone and it was 12.03. I thought I was going insane.”
There were four felt reports at the time the quake struck.
No-one has been injured and there has been no reported damage, Victoria’s State Emergency Service (SES) said in a tweet.
It follows a wild week of weather across the southern state, with multiple flood warnings still in place for parts of the Yarra and Thompson Rivers.
At 10.10pm yesterday a moderate warning for the Yarra River from Millgrove to Coldstream was issued, with residents urged to move to higher ground.
“The Yarra River catchment has recorded rainfall averaging 14mm in the upper part of the catchment and about 9mm in the lower part of the catchment since 09:00 AM Thursday,” an alert from the SES states.
