IF BOATY McBoatface taught us anything, it was not to let the public name things. But Australia could be introducing Trainy McTrainface station.

WHEN will people learn?

If Boaty McBoatface taught us anything, it was not to let the public name things.

Melbourne could now be in for its own Boaty McBoatface saga after people were invited to suggest names for the new Melbourne Metro Tunnel stations.

So what did they suggest? Yep, you guessed it, Trainy McTrainface station.

The vessel UK residents almost named Boaty McBoatface.

Public Transport Victoria will gather the public’s name suggestions for five new stations and a Herald Sun poll has discovered Melburnians aren’t really taking it seriously.

Let’s do a quick recap of Boaty McBoatface.

Remember when the National Environment Research Council thought it was a good idea to give UK residents the opportunity to name Britain’s Royal Research Ship?

Well Boaty McBoatface was one of the suggestions, and the public couldn’t resist and voted for it.

The ship was never named Boaty McBoatface but the whole thing became a global debacle.

Now Trainy McTrainface station is the sequel to Boaty McBoatface.

There have also been a few other hilarious names suggested including “Will It Be On Time station”.

Other favourites were “Better Than Sydney station” and “Running Late Again” station.

This isn’t the first time the Trainy McTrainface name has popped up.

A train in the UK renamed itself Trainy McTrainface temporarily.

Earlier this year a railway worker renamed a service from Portsmouth, a city on England’s south coast, to Waterloo, a district in central London.

The Independent reported it was temporarily named Trainy McTrainface as a response to the Boaty McBoatface debacle.

“It is a one-off by one of our creative guards who wanted to bring a smile to the face of our customers,” a railway company spokesperson said.

Unfortunately Public Transport Victoria won’t support Trainy McTrainface station or the other humorous names suggested and will be sticking to more traditional titles.

Stations will likely be named after landmarks, famous people or suburbs.
