The family of a man who vanished a month ago after a ‘significant, violent’ altercation at his house fear the worst has happened.

Police hold grave concerns for a Melbourne forklift driver who has been missing for a month after a “significant, violent” incident unfolded at the property where he was living.

Brendon Farrell, 32, was last seen by a friend about 12.30pm on Monday, May 31 at his home address in Kidds Rd, Doveton.

Detectives believe a “significant, violent event” involving weapons took place at the property the same day Mr Farrell disappeared.

His family joined police on Thursday to plead for information about what unfolded at the address, who was there and where he might be now.

Missing persons squad Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper said Mr Farrell had a difficult life, marred by problems with the drug ice and was surrounded by poor company.

“We have significant concerns for Brendon’s welfare,” he told reporters.

Mr Farrell lived in a rear bungalow at the address in Melbourne’s southeast, behind a main building, and police believe some kind of fight took place while he was there.

Mr Farrell’s sister Simone Hellyer said her brother had a heart of gold and adored his baby niece.

She said the last time she saw him was at her partner’s birthday days earlier on May 22.

Ms Hellyer said her brother mixed with bad characters due to his addiction, but would not go this long without family contact.

“We fear that the worst has happened, but we can’t move on either — we don’t have that closure, we don’t know what to think,” she told reporters.

“I hear my mum cry herself to sleep every night and it’s hurtful.”

She urged anyone with information to go to police, even if it’s anonymously.

“Just let us have some piece of mind, or be able to move on. We need to know what’s happened to our family member.”

Family reported Mr Farrell missing on June 2. Checks of his bank accounts and phone have not revealed any activity after May 31.

Inspector Stamper said Mr Farrell, who had a minor criminal history, stayed in touch with his mother pretty much daily.

“Probably like a lot of parents with people like Brendon, she always expected that something like this might happen one day that, because of the company he kept and certainly he moved in, that this could be a possibility one day and that day has arrived,” he said.

Police have spoken to some of the people who were at the property the day Mr Farrell went missing but “some big gaps” remain.

Inspector Stamper said detectives were focusing their investigation on his associates.

“As we all know, there’s some pretty bad people that move in those sort of circles,” he said.

“When you start talking ice and low level crime, the two things go together unfortunately.

“Brendon wasn’t really one of those bad people, he was just someone as we say who made some bad choices in life and unfortunately due to his lifestyle, he was drawn to (those) type of people.”

He has been described as about 168cm tall, of a slim to medium build with shaved reddish hair.

It’s believed he was wearing a black tracksuit at the time he was last seen.

He also had no access to a car and preferred to ride a bike to get around, but his bike is yet to be found.

Anyone with information about the fight at the Kidds Rd property on May 31, who was present at the time or on Mr Farrell’s whereabouts should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
