A 65-year-old Victorian man who was missing for more than a week has been found 500km away from where he vanished.
Yarrawonga man Peter John McLean disappeared on March 12 in “unusual” circumstances with his motorcycle found parked in Wangaratta, in the state’s northeast, three days later.
He was also believed to have been captured on CCTV footage riding an electric bike towing a trailer in Wangaratta.
On Sunday, police renewed their appeal for information into Mr McLean’s disappearance after it emerged he had been “detected” riding an electric bike towing a trailer on Greta Road in Wangaratta just before 5pm on March 12.
“Officers now believe Peter was carrying a significant amount of supplies and may have been prepared to travel a long distance,” police said in a statement.
“Police and Peter’s family are concerned about his safety as this behaviour is unusual and out of character.”
CCTV footage was released showing a person, believed to be Mr McLean, travelling on the electric bike, which had a distinctive yellow flag and yellow trailer.
Victoria Police confirmed Mr McLean had been found in Warrnambool, in the state’s southwest, about 8.30pm on Sunday.
Mr McLean was checked over by medical professionals after being found.
Police initially feared he was sleeping rough and may have travelled in the alpine region and could have been heading into NSW.
