Two people have died in a horror head-on collision at a busy intersection in Melbourne’s southeast.
Two people have been killed in a head-on crash in a southeastern Melbourne suburb.
The two cars collided shortly before 6am on Monday at the intersection of Westall Rd and Rosebank Ave in Clayton South.
A 46-year-old male driver from Springvale South and the 52-year-old Scorseby female driver, who were the sole occupants of both vehicles, died at the scene.
Police Inspector Graham Higginbotham said the driver “traversed onto the wrong side of Westall Rd across a median strip and collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction”, as reported by The Herald Sun.
He described the fatal crash as a “tragic start of the week”.
“On Monday morning, day after Mother’s Day, some families have lost some loved ones in a tragic vehicle collision this morning,” he said.
“Unfortunately drivers in both vehicles have passed away.”
“The intersection is expected to be closed for some time while police investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
Westall Rd has been shut in both directions between Heatherton Rd and Centre Rd.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the area.
Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
