An investigation has been launched after two bodies were found on a walking track.
The man and woman, who are yet to be formally identified, were found by a passer-by on a walking track near Wreck Beach, Gellibrand Lower in Victoria about 10.45am on Friday.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths are yet to be determined.
Offices have cordoned off the area and a crime scene has been established.
Police said they were not searching for anyone else in relation to the incident “at this early stage”.
They also said they are not treating either death as suspicious.
Wreck Beach is about 230km southwest of Melbourne.
The beach is a short drive from the renowned Twelve Apostles tourism destination on the Great Ocean Road.
Matthew Wheeler, who owns the nearby Destination M accommodation site, told NewsWire he heard a helicopter fly overhead about midday.
He said the walking track near the beach was a part of the Great Ocean Walk, a 110km long-distance walk.
“It’s part of the Great Ocean Walk, so there are people passing through there on a regular basis,” he said.
“It’s a remote spot and the track into it is not that great, but there are still people accessing it.”
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The police will prepare a report for the coroner.
