Victorian Police have released CCTV footage of a white truck which may have been implicated in a suspected fatal hit and run in Victoria’s West Gippsland region, amid calls for the driver to come forward.

Emergency services were called to Waterloo Rd in Trafalgar about 10.30am on Sunday after a man’s body was discovered on the side of the road.

On Tuesday, Victoria Police shared CCTV footage of a medium rigid white truck which was seen driving east on Tafalgar St at the same time.

Officers said they believe the driver may be able to assist with their inquiries.

On Monday, Detective Sergeant Peter Romanis of the Major Collision Investigation Unit said the unit was “fairly certain” a car was involved in the man’s death, with “fragments of glass, plastic and indicator lights” found at the scene.

He appealed for the driver to come forward and do “the right thing”.

Authorities also believe the vehicle involved in the incident would have likely incurred damage to its front passenger side, and headlight.

“Imagine if it was your friend, your family,” he told reporters.

“What would you expect someone to do in that circumstance?

“I know what the right thing to do is, and that’s to come forward and speak with us.”

Police are still working on formally identifying the man who they believe could have been homeless.

The man was discovered barefoot, and wearing a black tracksuit top, a white chequered shirt, and black trackpants with two white stripes down the sides.

Officers have continued to call on anyone who may have witnessed the incident, be in possession of CCTV or dashcam footage, or have information which could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
