The Basin murder charge: Elderly man in police custody
A nursing home in Victoria has been rocked by the news a man has been accused of murdering one of the residents.
An 88-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman’s body was discovered at a nursing home.
Police were called to a Mount View Road residence in Victoria about 12.40pm yesterday where they located the body of an 87-year-old woman.
The man, from The Basin, will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
The operator of the facility, Martin Luther Homes, told ABC it would fully co-operate with police.
“The sad passing of a woman who lived in our independent living retirement village today has saddened all our staff, residents and families,” it said in a statement.
“On behalf of everyone at Martin Luther Homes we extend our deepest sympathies to family and friends.”
Police have so far not detailed the nature of the victim and accused’s relationship.
Neighbours reported expressed their disbelief upon hearing that a woman may have been murdered at the “normally quiet” facility.
