Shocking images show the moment a truck erupted into flames on a major freeway.
Terrifying footage has emerged of the moment a truck cabin burst into flames on a major Melbourne freeway on Monday afternoon.
Images published by Nine show the cabin of a cement truck engulfed in flames, as well as the ash and rubble that remained once firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Fire Rescue Victoria responded to the incident just before 3pm and found the vehicle alight with “large amounts of smoke” over the road.
“Crews worked quickly to contain the fire before making the scene safe,” an FRV spokesman said.
“The driver managed to evacuate the cabin with no injuries reported.”
Ambulance Victoria confirmed no emergency transport was provided.
The Environmental Protection Authority was also notified due to the spill of diesel near surrounding waterways.
The scene was deemed under control just after 3pm, however the incident caused major congestion on the Monash Freeway.
Three of five outbound lanes were closed at Warrigal Rd, with traffic reaching Toorak Rd and adding 65 minutes to the regular journey, according to VicTraffic.
Authorities confirmed Victoria Police and VicRoads were called to the scene to assist with traffic management.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the blaze was not being treated as suspicious.
