Police investigating after newborn found injured outside Dandenong North home in Melbourne

Police are investigating after a newborn baby was discovered with life-threatening injuries outside a home.

A 25-year-old woman is under police guard after a newborn baby was discovered with life-threatening injuries outside a suburban home.

Police say the infant was located outside a home in southeastern Melbourne about 2.40am on Friday.

The newborn was taken to hospital alongside a woman who lived at the property. The woman remains under police guard.

“Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a newborn baby was taken to hospital in a critical condition,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”
