Note discovered in search of grandma missing for two weeks

An upsetting note has been found in the desperate search for Adelaide grandma Colleen South, who has been missing for a fortnight.

A suspicious note has been discovered in the abandoned handbag of a missing Adelaide grandmother, who disappeared more than two weeks ago.

Relatives have grown increasingly concerned following the discovery of the note that read, “please help me” in Colleen South’s handbag, found 20 metres from her crashed car in Bunguluke, a rural area bout 270 kilometres northwest of Melbourne.

The 58-year-old was last seen by a witness on July 3 about 3pm in Ninyeunook, in Malleee.

Less than an hour later her 2006 Hyundai Getz sedan was spotted by a farmer in Bunguluke, about 30 kilometres away.

The farmer reported the car two days later after realising the car had crash into a ditch and sustained damage, causing the airbags to be deployed.

Ms South’s belongings, including medication, puffers, keys, purse and clothes, were found in a pile, about 20 metres from her locked car.

An extensive search was executed across the Wycheproof region including with the air wing, dog squad, horses and foot patrols being deployed in the effort, however no leads have been detected.

Ms South’s family have been critical of the investigation, which changed hands from South Australian to Victorian police on Sunday, Herald Sun reported.

Farah Mak, Ms South’s niece, said the investigation had taken too long to be handed over.

“Our major concerns are that we are now two weeks into this and have had serious communication issued between SAPOL and VICPOL. Colleen was originally reported missing in South Australia on June 30th, but her car was found abandoned in regional Victoria, along with her personal belongings and a note in her journal that said ‘Help me please’. On Sunday July 3rd,” she said.

“Other eye witnesses have come forward with sightings in Victoria, to which the local police say they don’t know of, even though these people have called Crime Stoppers.”

Ms Smith’s daughter, Veronica South, has launched her own search and established a Facebook page dedicated to sharing information.

“It’s been two weeks since you’ve been missing mum. Although, it feels like a really long time but I’m just getting started with this search,” she said on Sunday.

“Spoke to locals today and have been meeting with farmers, there was no luck of getting any new evidence today. I am praying we find you soon and everyday feels like I’m getting a step closer to finding you. It hasn’t been easy.”
