Police are hunting three men wanted in connection to a shooting death in suburban Melbourne

A man was killed after he was shot following a wild car chase in Melbourne’s northwestern suburbs late on Sunday night.

Detectives are urging three men to hand themselves in after another man was shot dead in a parked BMW in Melbourne’s northwest.

Police were called to Vaucluse Blvd in Taylors Hill at around 11.30pm on Sunday, where they found the critically wounded man in a stolen black 2022 BMW.

Despite treating the man on scene, ambulance crews were unable to save him.

Detective Acting Inspector Nigel L’Estrange told a media conference on Monday afternoon they believe the other vehicle involved in the incident is a white 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer.

“We believe there were two occupants in each of those vehicles, and those vehicles were involved in a pursuit with the black BMW pursuing the white Lancer,” Detective L’Estrange said.

The Lancer is believed to have crashed into bollards on Grange Tce, with the BMW pulling up behind it.

“It looks like the driver of the white Lancer has got out of the vehicle with a firearm, and fired a shot through the front windscreen of the black BMW,” Detective L’Estrange said.

“The black BMW has then taken off, with the two occupants of the white Lancer left on foot … they’ve spoken to some of the local residents and asked how to get out of that estate.”

The driver of the BMW then stopped nearby on Vaucluse Blvd to call triple-zero, before fleeing.

Mr L’Estrange urged the three other men involved to “get on the front foot” and turn themselves in.

“We will identify you very soon,” he said.

“There will also be people out there who know who they are; we’re also asking them to come forward.

“We believe there is connection between these two cars and these people; this is not a random attack, and we don’t believe there’s any risk to the community.

“We have a number of strong leads in relation to these males, and we’re confident we’ll identify who they are.”

Forensic police collected materials from the area on Monday morning, the vehicle having been placed under a police marquee while its immediate surroundings were taped off from the public.
