‘Really horrific’: Tragic new details in baby’s death
New heartbreaking details have emerged after a six-month-old baby boy’s death in Melbourne’s northeast last week.
Police are reportedly investigating a six-month-old baby boy’s death as an attempted murder-suicide after he died at a home in Melbourne’s northeast last week.
Officers were called to a house on Langdon Drive in Mernda after reports a child had been critically injured about 9pm on Friday.
Both 7NEWS and the Herald Sun are reporting that the child’s father made the heartbreaking discovery when he arrived home.
Emergency services could not revive the man’s son.
A 36-year-old woman, who had life-threatening injuries, was flown to hospital and remains there in a critical condition under police guard.
It is understood she is still yet to be interviewed by police.
“Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this stage,” a Victoria Police statement said.
The police’s investigation remains ongoing and no charges have been laid at this stage.
Neighbours laid floral tributes outside the front of the home following the tragedy.
“It’s just really horrible to hear of such a small child lose their life in such a way. It’s really horrific,” resident Sam Beer told Nine News.
“It’s actually very hard to comprehend … it’s devastating, absolutely, nothing worse,” a neighbour told 7NEWS.
“You come past the scene and you see the front door is open and you just want to go in and grab the baby, but it’s not there … it’s horrible.”
