Heavily armed police negotiate with possibly armed man in Seddon, Melbourne
A tense situation in inner-Melbourne has ended, after a possibly armed man was involved in a standoff with police.
A man has been arrested after a standoff with heavily armed police in an inner-city Melbourne suburb.
The incident unfolded on Victoria Street, in Seddon, from about 2pm.
The standoff ended shortly before 4pm, and a man was taken into custody.
Images taken by locals in the area show the street cordoned off, with heavily armed police negotiating with a man inside one of the homes.
As the situation was developing, a police spokesperson said the man possibly had a weapon, though there was “no perceived risk to the community”.
The incident began about 2pm on Friday.
“The man is believed to be the only person inside the property and is possibly armed with a weapon,” the spokesperson said at the time.
“Police are encouraging people to avoid the area.”
