Fire crews battle giant blaze at industrial site in Thomastown

A fire has erupted at a large industrial site in Melbourne’s north, sending massive plumes of thick smoke into the air.

A fire has erupted at a large industrial site in Melbourne’s north, sending massive plumes of thick, black smoke into the air.

Fire crews are battling the Thomastown blaze, believed to be at a wreckers yard, while Settlement Rd remains closed.

Melvin Mathew, who works in an office near the blaze, said he went outside and encountered a “massive wall of black”.

“It looks like a building is on fire. There are police and firefighters everywhere,” he said.

Environment Protection Agency Victoria have sent officers to assess if there are any toxic materials involved in the fire.
