Couple looking for quiet spot cause flood, train station evacuations, concert goers to be left stranded
Police have found some naughty suspects who they believe caused train stations to be evacuated in Melbourne last week.
A couple looking for a quiet corner for a spot of affection have knocked a sprinkler, flooding a train station and causing delays to concert goers leaving a major international show.
Victoria Police on Wednesday released images of a pair who caused the evacuation of multiple City Loop stations in Melbourne at 10.40pm one night last week.
Police and the train operators thought a vandal had sprung the leak which was under a stairwell, but now images show it was a cosy couple.
“Metro have reviewed the CCTV footage and it would appear that an amorous couple in a stairwell dislodged a sprinkler,” Transport Infrastructure Minister Danny Pearson said on Wednesday.
The pair damaged a water pipe and the fire sprinkler system at Melbourne Central. The central and Flagstaff stations had to be evacuated during the incident on October 10.
American singer Olivia Rodrigo had just finished playing, when the couple’s tryst sparked the flood and the grinding halt of trains.
It is unclear how long police have had the CCTV footage of the couple before putting out a public call to identify them.
Their pursuit of some alone time has certainly taken a very public twist.
