Concrete rock hurled from freeway overpass smashes truck windscreen, hitting driver

Horror photos have shown a truck window smashed up after a rock was launched at the windscreen on a major Victorian freeway.

A Victorian truck driver has managed to avoid a dangerous high-speed crash after a rock was hauled onto his window on a major regional freeway.

Horrifying photos showed the aftermath of the incident which obliterated the right side of the window.

Police said the truck driver was towing machinery along the Western Freeway, near Ballarat, on Wednesday when the piece of concrete struck the driver’s side windscreen.

The truck driver had been approaching an overhead walking bridge around 6.10am when the concrete pummelled through the window, hitting him in the chest and landed on his lap.

The 50 year-old was able to pull over and call police.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone that may have been in the area at the time of the incident.
